ABOUT 3DMedSquared

The purpose of this project was to create an online repository with open-souce 3d modeled files of non-sterile medical devices.  In addition, this project will serve to demonstrate the practical use of printed files.

Because third world countries continue to experience slower growth of quality healthcare, because the time it takes to reach remote areas varies, because emergency services may take days to reach an affected area, and because medical help may take longer to reach, I investigated alternatives to medical devices  Even inexpensive medical devices such as umbilical cord clamps, splints, etc. can be inaccessible for many.  This online repository of open-source 3D printed files for medical devices can be printed by staff on demand.

Low cost 3D Printers can allow even places with poor electrical connections to create vital devices and equiptment.  As demonstrated by my low-cost 3D printer, these devices can be a valuable asset in rural towns where medical aid is poor or non-existant.

This website showcases the library created, the feasibililty of file creation and modification, and the resulting printed parts on a low-cost $500 printer.
